The 1942 Australian battle at Milne Bay in Papua New Guinea was the first defeat in World War 2 of Japanese land forces by any of the Allied nations. The “Kokoda” beaches of Buna, Sanananda and Gona were the scene of the final, bitter destruction of the Japanese Kokoda Invasion Forces in appalling conditions – an essential study for the actual end of the Kokoda campaign. This programme combines a 4wd mounted tour of Milne Bay and then after a flight to Popondetta, the Kokoda Beaches. Both areas are covered in detail, using – in the main – vehicle transport. A stay is included at Buna in village guest house accommodation. This tour is privileged to have accompanying the group the eminent Australian historian and author, Dr. Peter Brune, as commentator on these significant events at Milne bay and the Kokoda beaches.
